Theryn Kigvamasudvashti, M.A., began her formal work in the anti-violence movement 20 years ago when she moved to Seattle from Colorado Springs. As a member of the African American Taskforce Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (1998-2009) she met with a coalition of leaders of African descent who collectively worked to advance awareness, support, and safety of the African American community. In 1999, She joined the staff at Communities Against Rape and Abuse (CARA) where she led a program that connected with survivors and aggressors in the African American community to increase safety and accountability outside of the criminal legal system. Currently, Theryn is a communication’s instructor at Seattle Central College. Theyn has authored and co-authored text that have been integral to the restorative justice and reproductive justice social change movements. She is also a mom and loves that work the most.
